Q&A with Brendan

Brendan HoulihanEvery year I attend hundreds of community meetings, events and parades – I value these opportunities to meet with my constituents.  It is important for me to hear what's on the mind of Cook County taxpayers.

I want to hear from you! Please e-mail me questions about my campaign, the property tax appeal process in Cook County, or ideas for improvements at the Board of Review.  Each month, I will pick a question to answer and post on this Web site.

Please e-mail your question today to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Q: Why is the Board of Review important to me?

A: The Board of Review was created by the state legislature to serve as a checks and balances on the Assessor’s office. Every year, a taxpayer who feels their home is over valued can appeal with the Board based on numerous factors. The Board is also the last avenue of appeals before tax bills come out in the Fall. Appeals can lead to significant savings in your tax bill based on, but not limited to: a lack in uniformity with similar homes in the neighborhood, square footage errors, and damage due to flood or fire.
